01Who it's for

Built for a parent with thirty seconds.

Most visitors are parents on mid-range Android phones, often on mobile data, deciding whether to send their child for a free demo class. The site has to show them a serious, caring centre, what it teaches, and a way to ask in one tap.

Sam taught classes 6 to 9 here in 2023, so the questions parents ask weren't guesswork: which classes, which subjects, how far it is, what it costs, and whether their child can sit in on a class first.

Coaching sites in Delhi tend to look alike: banner sliders, a blinking "Admissions open", stock photographs. This one is calm and specific, in English and in Hindi.

02The idea

The look of a school notebook.

  1. 01

    One accent: the red pen

Off-white paper, ink-blue type, and the teacher's red pen used the way a teacher uses it: a tick, a line under the phrase that matters, a short note in the margin.

  2. 02

    The margin line

The notebook's red margin runs down the left of every page on a desktop, and the ruled lines sit behind the text.

  3. 03

    School objects as the parts

A timetable grid for the week, a report card for progress, a ruled page for questions, a date sheet for notices. Each appears as the centre confirms what goes in it.

  4. 04

    Nothing moves but the pen

No stock photographs, clip art or handwriting fonts, and no text that fades in. Only the red-pen marks draw themselves, once, and with reduced motion they're simply there.

One free-demo request, start to finish

Simulated data, showing the admission flow being set up with the centre. Switch between the parent's phone and the centre's side: both run on the same clock. The site writes the WhatsApp message; a person at the centre answers it.

Replay with simulated data, showing the admission flow being set up for Reliance Coaching Centre. On the centre's website a parent picks Class 7, Maths and Saturday evening for a free demo class and taps Send on WhatsApp. The request is added to the centre's Demo bookings sheet with the status New, and WhatsApp opens on the parent's phone with the message already written; the parent sends it. A few minutes later someone at the centre replies that Saturday evening is fine, and marks the row Demo booked. The parent thanks them.

04Confirmed facts only

Nothing on it is guessed.

Every fact the site shows lives in one file of confirmed facts. Anything the centre hasn't confirmed yet, such as fees, batch timings, results or photographs, is left out of the live site entirely.

The draft shows those gaps as dashed "to confirm" notes and red "sample" stamps, so the owner sees the finished design and what's missing at the same time. Every build also writes the missing facts out as a plain checklist.

The live build refuses to finish if any sample text has leaked into it.

The HTML, CSS and script together come to under 14 kB. Most of what a phone downloads is the three font files, 203 kB between them, which carry both English and Hindi in the site's own typefaces, Mukta and Tiro Devanagari Hindi, both under the SIL Open Font License.
